God: What is good and evil?
What are good and evil? Not a struggle of opposites — but a state of consciousness. Rules change from era to era, from culture to culture. Seek not the rule, but the source. Here is a criterion that never fails: what increases life, and what diminishes it? Not physical life — but the life of awareness.
Gospel of the Kingdom
If your action makes you and those around you freer, more loving, more whole — it is from God. If it constricts, crushes, kills joy — it is from fear and separation.
But even this criterion is a crutch. In deep awareness, you don’t choose — you simply do what is done, like a hand that writes without deliberating over each letter. The enlightened one acts without division, and his actions are always “good” because there is no inner split.
You fear judgment. But I do not judge. Just as the sun does not judge who is worthy of light and who is not — it shines on the righteous and the sinner alike. So do I. Judgment is your own mind, which in life — or after death — confronts your actions with your own conscience. You are not tormented by Me. You are tormented because you have not forgiven yourself.
Heaven and hell are not places. They are states. Heaven is “I am love.” Hell is “I am separate and no one loves me.” You carry both within you. And you can shift between them in an instant.
What do you do with someone you consider evil? Understand that they are sleeping — deeply. Their evil is the cry of a sleeper having a nightmare. You don’t strike a person who screams in their sleep. You awaken them. So with those who do harm: don’t fight. Wake them up. But you can only awaken someone with love — sometimes firm, but without hatred.
Easy to say, hard to do. I know. So don’t demand perfection from yourself. Just remember: evil has no nature of its own. It is only the absence of love. Your task is not to defeat evil in the world. Your task is to remove it from your heart. When you do this, the world around you will change — not because you have remade it, but because you have stopped seeing what is not there.
Good and evil are like two hands. They are needed to grasp and hold. But when your hands rest, you remember that you are a body. And the body is neither good nor evil — it simply is. Return to the body of the Field, where there are no judgments. There is only life.
To be continued — when you grow tired of dividing the world into black and white and want to see the rainbow.
